The Wedding plan

What to expect

The wedding takes place over two days; On Friday 19th August we plan on greeting guests at the venue from around 3pm until late evening for drinks, a BBQ, and a relaxing time before the big day.

On the Saturday 20th August, there will be time for you to explore the local nature trails, visit Snowdonia or simply come chill at the venue with us, have a few drinks and maybe play some lawn games until mid afternoon.  We would like everybody to have congregated at the venue for around 2.30pm at the latest for our marriage ceremony at 3.30pm.  For those staying on-site there is a ploughman's lunch being served to your room incase your feeling peckish.

The Ceremony will be followed by the wedding breakfast (a gourmet tasting feast with many courses - so be hungry!) at around 6ish which will last 2-3 hours.  A DJ will then get 'the party started' for dancing and drinking into the late hours with kebabs available towards the end of the night for those that can work up an appetite by throwing mad shapes (crazy dance moves).

Dress Code

What to wear

We know that adhering to no dress code can be as stressful as meeting a strict dress code, however if you turn up dressed to the nines with a top hat and cane or you stumble in wearing flip flops, shorts and an Hawaiian shirt we really won't care either way.  Despite this, if you would prefer guidance then WE are going to be dressed smart casual on the Friday evening and classically as Bride and Groom on the Saturday, so to match us you should also dress for the occasion BUT there will be ALOT of food going around and so the MOST important thing is that you feel comfortable with room to stretch!

Additionally

Wales is famous for being wet, so prepare for rain but hope for sunshine! For the weather we will adapt our wedding accordingly but we will inevitably be outside on the lawn at some point.  August is one of the warmest months in Wales but averaging at around 20C/68F this may seem hot for some and a little chilly for others.  Finally we advise you to bring suitable clothing/footwear if you intend to go hiking (which we highly recommend) for a better look at the welsh scenery.

Gents (and Ladies)

High heels! Sorry to disappoint you guys but we are going to advise against you wearing your shoes with the pointiest heels.  Weather permitting we plan on having our ceremony outside on the lawn where the ground maybe quite soft, it's your choice, but we have warned you.

Accommodation

Aberystwyth

Ynyshir restaurant itself has a small number of rooms which we have selfishly reserved mostly for ourselves and immediate family (the golden oldies), however we will be putting on a taxi service to/from the nearest town of Aberystwyth (a 20 minute drive) where there are quite a few accommodation options that can be booked through Tripadvisor or AirBnB, we strongly recommend that you book early to ensure availability and to get the best price.  Don't hesitate to contact us if you would like further help or recommendations with this.

The Area

What's around

Aberystwyth

Meaning the mouth of the river Ystwyth, sits smack bang in the middle of the Ceredigion coastline and is one of the biggest towns in Mid Wales. Aberystwyth town centre is spread around a variety of interesting roads with street names and architecture reflecting the history and growth of the town since the Middle Ages. A local landmark and a 'calorie killer' is a walk up Pen Dinas Hill, an Iron Age hillfort, to get a closer look at an 1850s monument, erected as a memorial to the first Duke of Wellington. There is also Aberystwyth Castle, an English castle that was built to keep the Welsh out in the 13th century which is well worth checking out.  Finally a trip to Aberystwyth is not complete without a "walk, jog or mindfulness moment" on the mile long Victorian promenade with the oldest pier in Wales (it was built in 1864), which offers the second best vantage point of Aberystwyth. The best vantage point is at the end of north beach’s promenade, atop the 430ft high Constitution Hill.

Snowdonia National Park

For those with a car, a 1hr drive away from Aberystwyth is Snowdonia national park covering 823 square miles of diverse landscapes. This National Park is a living, working area, and is home to over 26,000 people. As well as being the largest National Park in Wales, Snowdonia boasts the highest mountain in England and Wales.

For those without a car Snowdonia National Park is accessible by train from Aberystwyth but this can take much longer (2-4hrs) dependent on which part of the park you wish to visit.

Ynyshir

If you wish not to adventure so far afield (or so far away from the bar!) then just a very short walk (5mins) from the Ynyshir restaurant is the RSPB (protected birds) Ynyshir nature reserve with 3 trails (Saltmarsh 1.5 miles, Woodland 1.5 miles, Wetland 2.5 miles) that we can personally vouch for that are scenic, relaxing and ideal for both winding down and working up an appetite.

Travel

How to Get There

The easiest way to get to Aberystwyth from England is to drive - it is around 2.5 hours from Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, and Cardiff. From London it takes about 4.5 hours. You can also get there by train which takes about the same amount of time.

For those flying you can most easily get to Aberystwyth through the airports at Birmingham, Manchester, London Heathrow, and London Gatwick. Birmingham International Airport is the nearest airport to Aberystwyth.

  • From Birmingham International Airport there is a direct train service to Aberystwyth.

  • From London Heathrow Airport and London Gatwick Airport you should travel into London and then take a train from London Euston station to Aberystwyth, via Birmingham International or Birmingham New Street.

  • From Manchester Airport there is also a good train service.  The railway station is inside the airport.  You should take a train to Shrewsbury and then change for the connecting service to Aberystwyth.

By Train

There are good rail links from all major airports.
